UAE coordinates with Jordan before summoning Israeli ambassador

AMMAN — Israeli radio station Kan reported that the summoning of the Israeli ambassador to the UAE, in protest against the events taking place in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, was done in coordination between His Majesty King Abdullah and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Zayed Al-Nahyan, according to Khaberni. The radio also said that through the move, “the UAE wants to show, that by normalizing relations, it can influence Israel”. UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation Reem Al-Hashemi stressed that “Israeli authorities need to respect the right of Palestinians to practice their religious rites and stop any practices that violate the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque”. She also stressed “the need to respect the role of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in caring for the holy sites and endowments, in accordance with the international law and the historical situation, and not to prejudice the authority of the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf”.
