The minister also thanked Jordan for “its generosity in hosting more than 600,000 Syrians who have fled” their country, visited a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) community center in Amman for an update on Jordan’s utilization of UK aid, and “saw first-hand” how the UK’s £25 million contribution to the Jordanian National Aid Fund has helped Jordanians “whose lives have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“On my first visit to the Hashemite Kingdom, I discovered how the UK-Jordan partnership is growing in strength during this landmark centenary year,” said Cleverly. “We celebrated long-standing cooperation on defence, regional security, and economic stability, as we build back better from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

The minister contended that the UK is a “committed partner,” aiding Jordan in its hosting of refugees and protecting of Jordanians affected by the pandemic.
