AMMAN — The UN
refugee agency in Jordan received about a third of its financial needs in the
first half of the year, Al-Mamlaka TV reported.
UNHCR said by June 28, the agency’s office in Jordan received 28.94
percent of $408.4 million, or $118.2 million, of the money allocated to it this
year. This leaves a 71.06 percent, or $290.2 million financing gap this year.

The
agency said as of mid-June, there are 761,580 refugees registered with UNHCR in
Jordan, 82.6 percent of them live outside camps. Refugees under 18 years of age
make up 46 percent of the total registered refugee population in Jordan.
In
May, UNHCR provided cash assistance to about 33,000 refugee families, including
3,000 non-Syrian families, to help them meet their basic needs.
