AMMAN —
UNRWA’s Advisory Committee has
been holding its second meeting for the current year in Amman, on Monday and
Tuesday, ahead of the renewal of the agency mandate by the General Assembly,
according to Al-Mamlaka TV.

The Advisory Committee meets twice a
year to discuss issues that interest the UN and seeks to provide advice and
assistance to UNRWA’s commissioner-general.
The next meeting will be chaired by
Lebanon; the first meeting was held in Beirut between June 14 and June 15 this
year.
US Assistant Secretary of State for
Population, Refugees, and Migration Julieta Valls Noyes leads the US delegation
to the Advisory Committee meeting.
On Friday, the Fourth Committee of the
UN adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the agency until 2026, in
preparation for referring the resolution to the General Assembly for a vote
next month.
