The minister stresses the urgency of reducing
water loss and enhancing water services in alignment with the National Water
Strategy 2023-2040. USAID is providing a $20.5 million grant, with the
remaining funding sourced from the Aqaba Water Company. This agreement,
extending until 2027, targets a reduction in water loss within southern
governorates, Khaberni reported.
30,000 cubic meter tank in Aqaba
Key measures include improving billing
efficiency, increasing meter readings, upgrading infrastructure, and
constructing a 30,000 cubic meter tank in Aqaba. Infrastructure work will also
be undertaken for water pipelines in the Dead Sea-Aqaba line and Rumm supply
line, with an emphasis on maintaining minimal water loss to support Aqaba's
continuous supply system.
25 percent reduction by 2040
The agreement aims to bolster the Aqaba Water
Company's capabilities through consulting firms, offering expertise, execution
support, capacity building, knowledge transfer, and technical assistance. Mr.
Andrew McKim underscores collaborative efforts to reduce water loss, enhance
infrastructure, and establish long-term water management practices. The
project's overarching objective is to improve water supply, while concurrently
pursuing the annual goal of reducing water loss by 2 percent and ultimately
achieving the planned 25 percent reduction by 2040.
This agreement is part of the FARA
agreements, a series of financing agreements from the USAID. These agreements
were previously concluded as part of the third phase of the water loss
reduction project and encompass all Jordanian water companies and their
respective service areas.
