By the end of last year, the number of unemployed
individuals in Jordan had reached 419,000, according to Shamali.
The latest report from the Department of Statistics
indicates that the unemployment rate currently stands at 21.95 percent, showing
a slight decrease from previous figures. Reported Amman Net.
Youth unemployment and education-job market mismatch
Minister Shamali acknowledged that youth unemployment rates
are particularly high, stating that this is a common phenomenon in countries
worldwide.
He emphasized that the primary reason for the alarming
unemployment figures in Jordan is the mismatch between educational
qualifications and the demands of the job market.
Many graduates hold degrees in traditional fields that are
not currently in high demand, exacerbating the unemployment crisis, he added.
Government efforts to address unemployment
Minister Shamali highlighted the Ministry of Labor's
commitment to combating unemployment through major programs.
One such initiative is the National Employment Program,
which aims to connect job seekers with potential employers. Since its launch
eight months ago, the program has successfully appointed over 23,000 Jordanians
to various positions.
