AMMAN — President of the
Amman Chamber of Industry Fathi Jaghbir said that the Kingdom’s stock of vegetable oil, stored
in factories and warehouses, will last for at least three months, according to Jo24.

There are seven plants that
package vegetable oil in Jordan but do not manufacture it. In recent months,
the price of raw materials has risen; for example, the price of 1 tonne of palm
oil has risen from $700 to $2,400.
Jaghbir said that the present
crisis "should give us an incentive towards self-reliance,” adding that
the country should develop the industries necessary to produce vegetable oil.
However, he contended that
Jordan’s the high operating costs would discourage investors. Obstacles such as
high energy and transport costs, as well as “high taxes and duties” on raw
materials should be addressed to promote manufacturing.
