Amman– Polling stations in Belarus opened today, Sunday, to allow voters to cast their ballots in the presidential election.
According to the Belarusian news agency "BelTA," up to 41.8% of registered voters had cast their votes early in the day for the Presidential election of the Republic of Belarus. Local reports indicated that voter turnout is extremely high.
The agency reported that a total of 5,325 polling stations have been set up across the country, and they will remain open until 8:00 PM today.
Approximately 6.9 million people are eligible to vote in the Belarusian presidential election.
The candidates in the presidential race include the current president, Alexander Lukashenko, Liberal Democratic Party leader Oleg Gaidukevich, Communist Sergei Siranikov, Republican Party of Labor and Justice leader Alexander Khizniak, and independent activist Anna Kanopatskaya.
