World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Director of Program Management in the Mediterranean region Rana Hajjeh asked Jordan no to relax the COVID-19 precautionary measures until the pandemic situation is properly evaluated, in view of the emergence of new variants, according to a local media outlet.

Hajjeh said that there are many new variants whose risk
level was not yet determined, and stressed the efficiency of the
COVID-19 vaccines. She also said that Jordan was among the first countries in the region
to speed up the vaccination process, adding that it has vaccinated around 45
percent of the population so far.
According to Hajjeh, all countries, including Jordan,
should evaluate the epidemiological situation and ways to deal with it. WHO,
she said, recommends that Jordan vaccinate 70 percent of the population until
the end of July.
The number of COVID-19 cases recorded in Jordan last
week decreased by 35 percent, while the number of
PCR tests declined by 15
percent.
