His remarks came during the opening of the 8th World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) East Mediterranean Conference 2024, organized by the Jordanian Family Medicine Specialists Association.

Hawari highlighted that family medicine is the main gateway for patients in Jordan's health centers, playing a crucial role in diagnosing health conditions. The ministry's focus on primary health care and family medicine is part of its broader plan to implement comprehensive health coverage, as endorsed by the government in June.

He underscored that Jordan has always prioritized family medicine, with significant strides in residency programs across the Ministry of Health, Royal Medical Services, the University of Jordan, and the University of Science and Technology.

In recent years, the ministry updated the family medicine residency program in collaboration with the Royal Medical Services, making it one of the best training initiatives in Jordan's medical sector, he said. This has led to an increase in the number of doctors accepted into the program by 100 annually, enhancing health services at more than 500 comprehensive and primary care centers across the Kingdom.

Hawari also noted that Jordan is among the first countries in the region to implement a professional diploma in family medicine, which helps raise the practical and theoretical capabilities of general practitioners.

Oraib Alsmadi, President of the Jordanian Family Medicine Specialists Association, stressed the importance of the specialty, noting that the conference, being held in Jordan for the first time, will boost the skills of family doctors and contribute to better health care.
