In a press statement, ASEZA president, Nayef Bakhit, said the border crossing will
operate from 8am to 3:30am, except on Fridays and Saturdays, according to the
Jordan News Agency, Petra.
To enter Jordan through the border crossings, travelers will
have to have received both doses of a COVID
vaccination, or show that 21 days
have passed since they received their first dose of a vaccine. Travelers will
also be allowed to enter by showing proof of a
PCR rapid test, he said.
AZEZA announced
in April plans to reopen the border crossing. At the time, head of the Lower House’s tourism committee,
Obaid Yaseen, told Jordan News that the move was a “step forward” to revive the
tourism sector in Jordan.
Bakhit on Sunday also dismissed reports alleging local
tourists, who had flocked to Aqaba, were denied entry to the port city since
the announcement was made to partially lift the lockdown and reopen all
sectors.
The Ministry of Health, through its teams in Aqaba,
conducted have free rapid COVID-19 tests for all arrivals to Aqaba, who did not
receive the vaccine, he said, adding that the city's hotel occupancy rate for
the current week stood at 75 percent as a result of ASEZA's measures to
facilitate visitor flow.
