CBS News reported early Thursday that at least 18 bodies have been recovered so far, and that the plane was en route on a domestic flight from Kansas with 60 passengers and 4 crew members on board at the time of the incident.

NBC News reported that 4 passengers were rescued, while CNN cited a security source stating that the search for survivors has become more difficult.
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that search and rescue efforts are still ongoing and investigations into the collision have begun.

The U.S. Army confirmed that 3 soldiers were on board the Black Hawk, which had departed from Fort Belvoir in Virginia and collided with the passenger plane.

According to U.S. media, the military helicopter was on a training flight when the accident occurred. After the incident, Reagan Airport was closed, and flights were redirected to Baltimore International Airport.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the airport would remain closed until at least 5 a.m. Friday, Washington time.
