AMMAN — Minister of Water and
Irrigation
Mohammad Al-Najjar said that the ministry is working on a plan to
secure drinking water by digging, deepening, and rehabilitating wells to ensure
that there are sufficient quantities to cover the Kingdom’s demand, Hala News
reported.

In response to a query present by MP
Safaa Al-Momani during a Lower House oversight session on Monday, Najjar said that
Al-Wehda Dam and Mujib Dam are the only two dams used for drinking water in
Jordan.
Over the past two years, he said, some of
the Kingdom’s
dams ran dry due to low precipitation levels in several
governorates. These dams dried as their water evaporated and seeped into groundwater.
Najjar confirmed that the
King Talal Dam has not dried up since 1977 due to the flow of treated water into the dam.
For her part, Momani turned her query into
an interrogation.
