Taking part in a dialogue organized on Monday by the
Karak Forum for Popular Activities, Mahamid said that the losses are due to
administrative and technical reasons, as well as to the fact that the networks
are old and the water pipes have been repeatedly damaged by individuals seeking
to steal water.
Mahamid added that Karak is witnessing water
shortage due to the losses and to the decreasing levels of water in the Mujib
Dam, as a result of the weak rainfall.
He stressed the keenness of the Aqaba Water Company
to modernize the network, improve the administrative apparatus and come up with
water sources, since it is the duty of the company to provide water and in
appropriate quantities and quality, as well as to be fair in distributing water
to various regions; it also seeks to implement water projects that serve the
governorate, he said.
Karak Governor Muhammad Al-Fayez stressed that the
governorate suffers from a great water shortage, and that everyone’s
cooperation is needed to solve the problem.
The Karak Forum for Popular Activities President Khaled
Al-Damour said citizens have been complaining and asking for the network to be
modernized, as well as to be provided with Disi water and for authorities to
put an end to the violations.
