AMMAN —
Minister of Water and Irrigation, Mohammed Al-Najjar, confirmed that Israel is upholding the
quantities of water agreed upon in the Jordanian-Israeli peace treaty,
according to a local media outlet.

he announcement came in response to
three questions submitted by MP Ali Al-Khalayleh in December 2021, ahead of a
supervisory session to be held by the House of Representatives on Tuesday.
Details of the agreementAccording to Najjar, Jordan's
annual share of water under Annex 2 of the agreement, agreed upon by King Hussein bin
Talal and the Israeli Prime Minister at the time, is 35 million cubic meters,
in addition to water stored during the winter season in Lake Tiberias and pumped
back during the summer season.
Annex 2 outlines the implementation
of commitments under Article 6 of the treaty, which calls for "fair
allocations" of
water from the Jordan and Yarmouk Rivers and the Araba
Valley.
Najjar confirmed that the
Jordanian-Israeli Joint Water Committee is closely monitoring the
implementation of Annex 2 and that there have been no violations on the Israeli
side.
