AMMAN — The Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and
Minister of State for Public Sector Modernization, Nasser Al-Sharida, said on
recently that the government will announce a plan to restructure the water
tariff.

The restructure will include a monthly issuance of the water
bill starting September. This will replace the current model of trimonthly bills.
He added that a team is working on preparing the restricting
plan, which will be announced with transparency, according to Al-Mamlaka TV.
Regarding the monthly water bill, Sharida stated that the
government has not reversed its decision but it has been delayed due to
technical challenges.
A monthly bill for ‘lower price’
He continued that the issuance of a monthly bill will have a
positive impact on its consumers, as the bill amount will be much lower than
what it is paid every three months.
He added that this will have a positive impact on water
consumption and enhance the existing billing and collection system.
The Ministry of Water and Irrigation previously announced
the indefinite postponement of issuing monthly water bills, according to the
its spokesperson, Omar Salama.
He also emphasized that reducing water loss percentage and
improving the financial sustainability of this sector are among the
government's priorities.
