Falahat praised
efforts of the NCHR for its efforts in “giving a listening ear to those
oppressed, but is only independent in equal proportion to the struggles of its
officials for independence,” adding that the center’s recommendations remain
unimplemented. The meeting hosted a
number of activists and the families of ‘detainees of conscience’ as well as the
center’s commissioner general.
Falahat spoke about
events that some activists have experienced; where they were subjected to human
rights violations as both individuals and citizens, urging a documentation of
those events “during this these times and this political era.”
“A State with no respect for the constitution
and the law is a state that poses danger to all,” he said, adding that despite
the King’s repeated statements, none gets implemented. “The nation is in
danger,” he stressed.
“We should be speaking freely at the doors of the
Royal Court,” said Falahat, lamenting the status quo and cautioning about the current
state of affairs, where activists celebrate the “success of not being kicked
out of the NCHR.”
