45% fewer new cases this week

AMMAN — Jordan recorded 1,731 new cases of COVID-19 and marked 17 new deaths between March 26 and April 2, the 13th epidemiological week, compared to 3,171 new cases and 28 deaths the preceding week, according to Adel Al-Balbisi, adviser to the prime minister for health affairs.

This represents a 45 percent decrease in cases and a 39 percent decrease in deaths compared to the preceding week.

According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, more than 45,000 PCR tests were conducted this week, of which 3.78 were positive; 6 percent fewer tests than the preceding week and a 1.8 percentage point reduction in positivity rate.

There are currently 1,227 active cases in the Kingdom, with 137 patients having been admitted to the hospital and 167 people having been discharged. There are currently 124 people currently hospitalized for COVID-19, the Ministry of Health said.

About 4.7 million people have received their first dose of the vaccine and 4.4 million have received two. Just under 10,000 people received their first dose and more than 8,000 received their second shot this week, according to Balbisi.
