In a statement, Qawasmi said that the sales and discounts will run for four days to prevent overcrowding had it been for just one day.

After meeting with merchants and representatives of shopping malls and markets at the chamber’s headquarters, they agreed to adhere to the health protocols which are implemented by the shoes and garments retail sector.

Sale prices could reach 70 percent discounts at some shops, Qawasmi said, this is in order to give special prices to shoppers and activate the retail sector which has been suffering since the beginning of the year.

The sales will encompass various markets, malls, and outlets across the Kingdom, Qawasmi added, pointing out that retail outlets attach great importance to White Friday and work to by providing online shopping and delivery services and making sure prices and suitable and various styles are available.

He said that all workers in the clothing sector must adhere to the safety protocols, including wearing masks and keeping physical distance.

Qawasmi pointed to the weak turnout at clothing shops even though the winter season has begun, adding that the reason for this is the decline in purchasing power, and the absence of shopping tourism, in addition to the high operational costs of the retail sector.

The clothing and footwear sector employs 53,000 workers, most are Jordanians, and comprise 11,000 establishments operating nationwide. The local clothing and footwear market comprises 180 trademarks and brands.

Traditionally, Black Friday in the US falls on the Friday following Thanksgiving Day and is often a good time to get good discounts, allowing shops to get rid of their old stock before receiving new stock ahead of the Christmas shopping season.
