AMMAN — Chairman of the
Independent Election Commission Musa Maaytah said that women stand to benefit most from the
new Election Law, according to Al-Ghad News.

Maaytah said in a press conference on Tuesday: “We
aspire to a parliament with a partisan majority, and in the near future, there
will be awareness campaigns to educate young people on the importance of
participating in the elections; at the same time, educational curricula will
teach issues like political pluralism and democracy.”
Maaytah said that the commission will not interfere
in the work of political parties, “our only responsibility is to ensure that
the new political party law’s technical, administrative and financial aspects
are implemented”.
Maaytah pointed out that for the first time, the
commission will grant financial support to parties that will participate in
parliamentary elections.
Maaytah said that since the new
Political Parties Law went into force, on May 14, the commission has held meetings with the
parties and will keep channels of communication open with them throughout the
course of its work.
