AMMAN — President of Workers’
House Hamadah Abu Nejmeh said that agriculture workers, both
Jordanians and
foreigners, witness many labor violations due to the absence of legal
protection, according to AmmanNet.

“The agricultural sector lacks important
elements in terms of protection from work injuries, occupational safety and
health conditions, and decent work conditions,” said Abu Nejmeh.
He added that violations include wage delays
and problems faced by women, in particular, including transportation issues.
Abu Nejmeh said it is unfortunate that so far
workers in the agricultural sector have not been registered for
social security, a process that was postponed until 2023 by an agreement employers
reached with the government.
There is shortage of labor inspectors, Abu Nejmeh added,
and this leads to further labor violations and increases the need to create a
trade union for agricultural workers, to protect their rights.
