Irbid - Presidents Islam Massad of Yarmouk University (YU) and Tim Killeen of the University of Illinois Chicago discussed scientific and research cooperation between their institutions during a virtual meeting on Wednesday.

Massad highlighted the YU’s growth and development across various academic fields, underscoring its strategic plan to adapt to global changes and expand partnerships with academic institutions worldwide.
Killeen commended the YU’s reputation and its proactive steps in fostering international collaborations to enhance academic programs and adapt to evolving trends. He expressed the University of Illinois' interest in partnering with the YU through the Discovery Partners Institute, involving all Illinois universities.
Deba Dutta, Interim Executive Director of the Discovery Partners Institute, presented a cooperation program proposal aimed at advancing leadership between the two universities. The proposal includes initiatives to establish research partnerships, facilitate faculty and student exchanges, develop academic programs, and create joint degrees. Focus areas outlined in the proposal encompass health, artificial intelligence, big data, cybersecurity, as well as environmental and water sciences.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to draft a memorandum of understanding formalizing joint academic initiatives under the proposed program.
