Farajat said that programs by the government and the
Ministry of Tourism succeeded in attracting younger visitors to Petra, and
these tend to stay longer, use traditional means of transportation, and lodge
in three- or four-star hotels, which is, most of the time, an investment in the
local community and therefore has a better economic return.
Farajat pointed out that
about 1,000 foreign tourists visit Petra daily; in the month of May, the number
reached about 86,000, which is very good compared to previous years.
