The designated area has been carefully prepared, and the
tree planting is scheduled to begin during the upcoming rainy season in
December, the Jordan News Agency, Petra reported.
This initiative aims to enhance green spaces and address the
pollution challenges faced by the residents of
Zarqa Governorate, particularly
in the Hashemiyah area, which is home to the Jordanian Petroleum Refinery and
several factories impacting air quality.
Over 2000 forest trees to be planted
The overall project covers an estimated area of 400 dunums
and will be executed in four stages. Each stage will witness the planting of 50
dunums, totaling over 2000 forest trees.
Mohammed Youssef, the head of the
Forestry Department,
explained that preparations included the development of agricultural ponds and
dedicated terraces for tree planting on the designated 50 dunums. Additionally,
a water pump has been installed to extract water from the
Zarqa River for
irrigation purposes. Furthermore, a road has been opened in front of the
Hashemiyah Agricultural Center to facilitate access to the project site.
The construction of a main pond covering an area of 2450
square meters on the 50 dunums was part of the preparations. Two additional
supply ponds, each measuring 2875 square meters, were also established. These
measures ensure the efficient water management required for the successful
growth and sustainability of the forest.
With the completion of preparations, the stage is set for
the commencement of tree planting in the near future. The forest project holds
the promise of a greener and cleaner future for
Zarqa Governorate, with its
positive impact expected to be felt for years to come.
