Canadian Prime Minister: No Negotiations with Trump Until He Respects Our Country
The new Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney, stated that his country will not engage in "comprehensive negotiations" with U.S. President Donald Trump until the latter shows the respect that Canada deserves as a sovereign nation.  اضافة اعلان

In remarks made on Friday during a meeting in the capital, Ottawa, with provincial leaders, Carney emphasized that Americans themselves will ultimately suffer from the trade policies implemented by Trump.

He expressed confidence that negotiations with the Trump administration would eventually take place comprehensively and within a framework of mutual respect.

Carney stressed that Canada will not negotiate with Trump until it receives "the respect it deserves as a sovereign nation," adding that this "is not a big ask."

Tensions between the U.S. and Canada have been escalating following Washington’s decision to impose an additional 25% tariff on imports from Canada and Mexico at the beginning of March.

In response, Doug Ford, the Premier of Ontario—the largest Canadian province—announced on March 10 that they would impose an additional 25% tariff on electricity supplied to U.S. states. This move prompted warnings from the White House, which stated that it could lead to "serious consequences."

Trump recently reiterated that Canada "should be a U.S. state," claiming that it has "taken advantage" of the U.S. for many years.

On Friday, Trump stated that Canada had long exploited his country by imposing high tariffs and added, "We don’t need Canadian products, and supporting them costs us $200 billion a year."
