China's Ministry of Commerce pledged on Tuesday to fight U.S. tariffs "until the end," in response to President Donald Trump's threat to impose new 50% tariffs on imports from the world's second-largest economy.

A spokesperson for the ministry stated, "The U.S. threat to increase tariffs on China is a double mistake, once again revealing the nature of U.S. extortion."
He emphasized, "China will never accept this. If the U.S. insists on following its own path, China will fight it until the end."
He added, "If the U.S. escalates its tariff actions, China will take strict countermeasures to protect its rights and interests."
Trump's decisions to impose broad tariffs have destabilized the global economy, raising concerns about a potential global recession.
Beijing, Washington's main economic competitor, revealed a decision to impose retaliatory tariffs of 34% on U.S. goods, which are set to take effect on Thursday.
However, China's Ministry of Commerce also urged the U.S. to engage in "fair dialogue" to find a solution to the escalating trade war, noting that "there are no winners in a trade war."
