In a statement issued by the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism on Thursday, it said: "Chinese tourists should assess the risks of traveling to the United States and exercise caution when traveling due to the deteriorating economic and trade relations between China and the United States, and the security situation in the U.S."
The Chinese Ministry of Education also referred to "negative provisions" targeting Chinese students in a bill passed by the Ohio House of Representatives in the United States.
The Ministry of Education said in a statement: "We remind overseas students to assess security risks when choosing to study in the state of Ohio, USA."
The bill passed by the Ohio House of Representatives stipulates that universities receiving government funding must take "measures to limit foreign influence," referring to activities by China.
On April 2, President Trump imposed a 34% tariff on Chinese imports, in addition to the 20% tariff previously imposed in the preceding months, prompting Beijing to retaliate by imposing the same 34% tariff on U.S. exports.
Washington responded by imposing an additional 50% tariff, raising the total to 104%, which was met by China increasing tariffs on American goods from 34% to 84%. On Wednesday evening, Trump raised the tariffs on China to 125%.
Earlier in April, Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on all countries, with a minimum rate of 10%.
