In this context, China's Xinhua news agency quoted the president of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, Myo Nyunt, as saying that "rescue teams are facing significant challenges in relief operations, primarily the difficulty in assessing the scale of the disaster and coordinating logistics."
He added that security concerns in the affected areas are hindering aid distribution efforts, amid a severe shortage of heavy equipment needed to remove debris and rescue those trapped.
Relief teams continue their work despite these challenges, while authorities are making intensive efforts to provide supplies and humanitarian assistance to those affected.
A 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar last Friday, with tremors felt by residents in five neighboring countries, including Thailand.
