The ruling includes halting the dismissal of more than 1,200 employees and preventing the reduction of funding or the closure of offices.

This decision is considered a victory for press freedom and a reaffirmation of the protection provided by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Voice of America is a U.S. government-funded media agency, established in 1942 during World War II with the aim of broadcasting accurate and balanced news and information to a global audience. It is the largest international radio station in the United States, producing programs in over 40 languages. VOA is overseen by the U.S. Agency for Global Media, an independent agency of the U.S. government.

President Trump had issued an executive order to close Voice of America on March 14, 2025, which included a reduction in funding for the service and six other federal entities as part of his efforts to cut government spending in line with his political agenda.
