Schnick posted on "X" (formerly Twitter) that German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock had officially reopened the embassy in Syria.

He added, "We are happy to work closely with all Syrians for a better Syria."

Schnick also pointed out that the embassy’s team remains small, stating, "Therefore, visa and consular matters will continue to be managed from Beirut for the time being."

It is noteworthy that this marks the second visit by German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to Syria since the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8th of last year.

Baerbock had said on the eve of her first visit that she was heading to Syria with an "outstretched hand" and "clear expectations" from the new administration, adding that the evaluation of this administration would be based on its actions.

She mentioned that the goal now is for Syria to once again become a respected member of the international community, which also aligns with Europe's security interests.
