Germany: Trump's Plan for Gaza Ownership is a "Scandal"

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has described former U.S. President Donald Trump's suggestion that the United States could take ownership of Gaza, redevelop it, and relocate its population as a "scandal."

Scholz made the remarks during a televised debate with his conservative rivalFriedrich Merz, leader of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), ahead of Germany's parliamentary elections on February 23.

When asked about Trump's proposal to turn Gaza into the "Riviera of the Middle East," Scholz responded:اضافة اعلان
"It is a scandal. Moreover, 'Riviera' is a truly terrible expression," given the scale of destruction in Gaza.

He added:
"Relocating the population is unacceptable and violates international law," emphasizing that both Egypt and Jordan have rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians.

For his part, Merz agreed, stating:
"I share this assessment. This proposal is one of several concerning ideas coming from the U.S. administration. However, we must wait to see what is seriously meant and how it is implemented—there may be a lot of empty rhetoric in this."
