Syrian Woman Dies in Fire While Saving Her Children in Turkey
In a tragic event in late January, a Syrian woman, Israa Alala (26), died while trying to save her three children from a fire in their home in the city of Denizli, Turkey. Her body will be repatriated to Syria for burial.
The fire broke out around 6 PM due to a spark from a heater, quickly engulfing the apartment. Israa managed to get her two older children, Kawthar Jabi (7) and Fatima Jabi (9), out of the building, and they ran to neighbors for help.
Meanwhile, Israa went back into the apartment to rescue her one-year-old daughter, Ayan, who was asleep in a room that was already consumed by flames. Israa wrapped her daughter in a blanket and threw her from the fourth-floor window, where neighbors had spread a blanket to catch her. However, Israa was unable to escape as she collapsed from inhaling the heavy smoke.
Firefighters, emergency medical teams, and police arrived at the scene shortly after the alarm was raised. The fire was brought under control within half an hour. When they entered the apartment, they found Israa’s lifeless body, having succumbed to smoke inhalation. Emergency services confirmed that Ayan suffered only minor burns and was transferred to the Denizli State Hospital for treatment. (Source: Syria TV)
