Iran will immediately reciprocate if the United States returns to its commitments under the interim agreement signed in June, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday.

The Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) quoted Pezeshkian as making the remarks during a Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek.
The statement came after clashes between Iran and the United States resumed early Monday following a month of relative calm, amid increased US pressure on Tehran and Washington’s declaration of an “economic war” against Iran. US President Donald Trump also vowed Monday to respond forcefully to Iran’s recent attacks on US targets in the Middle East.
For the first time since late July, US forces announced an attack targeting what they described as “two Iranian missile launchers on Larak Island,” located in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Tehran responded with missile and drone attacks targeting military positions in the region. Pezeshkian, meanwhile, stressed that Iran does not want the war to continue.
Following the announcement of the latest strikes, oil prices rose, with Brent crude, the global benchmark, climbing above $90 a barrel.
Trump warned Tehran on Monday that the United States would respond to its recent attacks on US targets in the Middle East, according to Fox News.
“There will be a response,” Trump said. “We will hit them hard.”
Pezeshkian, meanwhile, said during a meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Kyrgyzstan on Monday, “We believe that continuing the war is not in our interest or in the interest of the region.”
