The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the mass polio vaccination campaign in the Gaza Strip will resume next Saturday, targeting more than half a million children.

In a statement, the WHO stated, "The current situation in Gaza, including overcrowding in shelters and severe damage to water and sanitation infrastructure and personal hygiene practices, which facilitates the transmission of infection via the fecal-oral route, creates the ideal conditions for the further spread of the polio virus."
It added, "The intense population movement due to the current ceasefire is likely to exacerbate the spread of the polio virus infection."
