Oman’s Foreign Minister stated after the conclusion of today’s round that the discussions between the U.S. and Iran included talks on fundamental principles, core objectives, and technical aspects.

He noted that both parties identified a shared ambition to reach an agreement based on mutual respect and lasting commitments.

He further announced that the next round of talks is scheduled to take place at a high-level meeting provisionally set for May 3.

Prior to the start of the negotiations, experts held an initial meeting, during which Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi engaged indirectly with U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff through Omani mediators.

This came after a second round of talks held in Rome a week earlier, which both sides described as constructive. The indirect expert-level meetings in Muscat, which lasted for several hours, aimed to establish a framework for a potential nuclear agreement.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baqaei told reporters in Oman, “Iran remains committed to its principled position on the need to lift the unjust sanctions and is ready to build trust regarding the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.”

U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with Time magazine, published yesterday (Friday), "I believe we will reach an agreement with Iran," but he reiterated his threat to take military action if diplomatic efforts fail.

Shortly after Araqchi and Witkoff began their indirect talks, Iranian state media reported a massive explosion at the Shahid Rajaee port near the southern city of Bandar Abbas, resulting in hundreds of injuries.
