The occupation government held an emergency meeting on Tuesday evening to discuss the return of members of the "Otzma Yehudit" party to the government.

Despite expectations that the meeting would address national security issues such as the prisoner file or the dismissal of the Shin Bet chief, Ronen Bar, the agenda focused on reinstating Ben Gvir to his position in preparation for passing the state budget, which is crucial to maintaining coalition stability.

Despite opposition from the government's legal advisor, Gali Beharav-Miara, a unanimous decision was made to reappoint Ben Gvir as Minister of National Security. Additionally, Amihai Eliyahu was reinstated as Minister of Heritage, and Yitzhak Wasserlauf returned to the Ministry of Negev and Galilee.

Amid the controversy surrounding Ben Gvir's appointment, the government's legal advisor confirmed that previous petitions against his assumption of the Ministry of National Security would be reviewed again.

Beharav-Miara had previously warned that Ben Gvir's continued tenure could impact the independence of law enforcement agencies. However, Netanyahu disregarded these warnings and insisted on reappointing him.

In response, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar sharply criticized the government's legal advisor, accusing her of attempting to obstruct the appointments for non-legal reasons, describing her stance as "political" rather than legal.

These developments come at a sensitive time, as Netanyahu seeks to maintain the cohesion of his right-wing government amid both internal and external criticism concerning the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the handling of security and political matters.

Ben Gvir's return raises concerns over a potential new security escalation, given his hardline positions and policies that have sparked widespread controversy both within Israel and abroad.
