In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that he would nominate retired Lieutenant General Dan "Razin" Cain to replace General Brown. He described Cain as a seasoned pilot, a national security expert, a successful businessman, and a fighter with extensive experience in special operations and interagency coordination.
This dismissal follows weeks of turmoil within the Pentagon, which is already preparing for widespread layoffs among civilian employees, along with a major restructuring of the budget and a shift in U.S. military deployments in line with Trump’s "America First" foreign policy strategy.
According to The New York Times, Brown’s removal reflects Trump’s insistence that military leadership has become overly focused on diversity and inclusion efforts, losing sight of its core mission as a combat force dedicated to national defense. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had previously stated that Brown should be dismissed due to his emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the military.
It is noteworthy that General Brown was the first African American to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff after being nominated by Trump in 2020 to lead the Air Force.
