This statement came in a post on the "Truth Social" platform, where Trump discussed the tariffs he imposed last Wednesday, which apply to all countries with a minimum rate of 10%.
Trump argued that the trade surpluses of other countries with the US during the presidency of his predecessor, Joe Biden (2021-2025), had increased the burden on the United States, emphasizing that he would work to reverse this trend quickly.
He added, "One day, people will realize that tariffs are very good for the United States."
He continued, "We have a huge trade deficit with China, the European Union, and many other countries, and the only way to solve this problem is by imposing tariffs, which are currently bringing tens of billions of dollars to the United States."
On April 2, Trump announced the imposition of "reciprocal" tariffs on all countries, with a minimum rate of 10%.
He described the day he made the announcement as "a long-awaited day of liberation, and a declaration of economic independence for America," adding that it would ultimately mean more domestic production, stronger competition, and lower prices for consumers.
Trump decided to apply tariffs of 34% on China, 20% on the EU, 46% on Vietnam, 24% on Japan, 26% on India, 30% on South Africa, 37% on Bangladesh, 17% on Israel, and 10% on Turkey, with the same rate applied to the United Kingdom.
Additionally, he imposed tariffs of 10% on Qatar, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, Sudan, Yemen, Lebanon, Djibouti, Oman, Bahrain, and Morocco. Syria had the highest tariff rate among Arab countries at 41%, followed by Iraq at 39%, and Algeria at 30%.
