The Turkish judiciary ordered on Sunday the detention of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu pending investigation in a corruption probe related to the municipality.

An Anadolu Agency reporter stated that the police referred İmamoğlu and several suspects to court after taking their statements.
He added that the criminal peace court ordered İmamoğlu to be detained while the investigation continues.
On Wednesday, the Istanbul public prosecutor's office had ordered the arrest of İmamoğlu and 99 other suspects on charges of "corruption, bribery, and terrorism."
The prosecutor's office also charged the mayor and others with "leading a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "extortion," "bribery," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "fraud."
İmamoğlu, along with seven others, including Istanbul Municipality's Deputy Secretary General Mahir Bolat and the Mayor of Şişli in Istanbul, Muammer Şahan, is accused of "assisting the PKK terrorist organization." - Anadolu Agency.
