The ministry spokesperson, Anis Al-Asbahi, stated on the social media platform "X" on Sunday that the initial death toll from the U.S. airstrikes targeting civilian and residential areas in Sana'a, Saada, Al-Bayda, and Radaa reached 31, with 101 injuries, most of whom are women and children. He also noted that this is a preliminary toll, and recovery efforts for the victims are still ongoing.

The Houthis have vowed to retaliate against the strikes that targeted the capital, Sana'a.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Saturday that he had ordered "decisive and powerful" strikes against the Houthis in Yemen in response to their threats to maritime trade.

Trump, in a post on his Truth Social platform, urged Iran to "immediately stop" its support for the Houthis, who control vast areas of Yemen.

These airstrikes are the first U.S. strikes against the Houthis since Trump took office in January of last year.

An anonymous U.S. official told Reuters that the U.S. military strikes against the Houthis in Yemen could continue for days, and possibly weeks. (Agencies)
