The Wall Street Journal reported that this shocking threat came during Hegseth's first call with senior Mexican military officials.
Hegseth told the officials, "If Mexico does not address the collusion between the country's government and drug cartels, the U.S. military is prepared to take unilateral action," according to sources familiar with the call that took place on January 31st.
These sources said that senior Mexican military leaders who participated in the call were shocked and angry, feeling that Hegseth was suggesting U.S. military action inside Mexico. The Department of Defense declined to comment. -(Agencies)
