Several peacekeepers were injured in the attack by a group of protesters on the main road leading to the airport, and a UNIFIL vehicle was set on fire.

In a statement issued on his behalf, Guterres said, "Such attacks are absolutely unacceptable, and the perpetrators must be held accountable."

The Secretary-General emphasized the need to ensure the safety and security of UN personnel and property at all times, noting that attacks against peacekeeping forces are violations of international law, including international humanitarian law, and may constitute war crimes.

He reaffirmed the continued work of the blue helmets in Lebanon to support both parties in fulfilling their commitments under Security Council Resolution 1701 (2006), pointing out that, in accordance with the resolution, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon must be allowed unrestricted freedom of movement throughout Lebanon in carrying out its mandated activities.

The Secretary-General urged the parties once again to meet their obligations and work toward the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 1701 and its ultimate goal, which is a permanent ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.
