UN Security Council Calls for a Comprehensive Syrian-Led Political Process
New York – Members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) called early today for the implementation of an inclusive, Syrian-led, and Syrian-owned political process based on the fundamental principles outlined in Resolution 2254, facilitated by the United Nations.اضافة اعلان

In a statement issued early this morning, the members expressed their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, to assist in facilitating this Syrian-led and Syrian-owned process.

They emphasized that the political process must meet the legitimate aspirations of all Syrians, protect them, and empower them to determine their future.

The Council members reiterated their strong commitment to Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity.

They urged all nations to respect these principles and stressed the need for Syria and its neighbors to refrain from any actions or interference that might undermine each other's security.

The members also underscored the importance of combating terrorism in Syria

. They recalled the obligations of all parties under relevant Security Council resolutions on counterterrorism, particularly Resolutions 1267, 1989, and 2253, which pertain to the situation in Syria.

Additionally, they highlighted the necessity of preventing ISIS and other terrorist groups from reestablishing their capabilities or finding safe havens in Syria.

The Council called on Syria to comply with all relevant resolutions concerning non-conventional weapons and urged cooperation with international efforts.

The statement emphasized the need to respect human rights, including the right to seek justice, and to adhere to international humanitarian law under all circumstances.

It also stressed the importance of ensuring and facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid, urging increased international support for UN efforts and humanitarian organizations to provide aid to civilians across Syria.

The members expressed solidarity with victims, families of the missing, and the Syrian people, reaffirming their support for the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) in implementing its mandate.

They called on all parties to refrain from activities that might endanger the safety and security of peacekeepers and their infrastructure.

They also urged respect for the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, particularly principles related to the buffer zone.

The Council stressed the need for all parties to adhere fully to its terms, maintain calm, and reduce tensions.

Furthermore, they emphasized the inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel in all circumstances, in accordance with international law.

It is worth noting that Security Council statements are issued with the unanimous agreement of all members.
