Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday urged citizens not to lose hope for the return of peace to their country and to persevere through the hardships of war, which has continued for 1,152 days.

In a video message shared on social media, Zelensky—wearing a traditional gray embroidered Ukrainian shirt and standing in front of Saint Sophia Cathedral, Kyiv’s main church—said that Ukraine "never loses faith."
Russian President Vladimir Putin had announced a surprise one-day ceasefire in Ukraine on Saturday to mark Easter. However, Zelensky stated earlier on Sunday that the Russian military only pretended to observe the ceasefire while continuing its attempts to inflict losses on Ukraine overnight along the front lines.
“We know what we are defending. We know what we are fighting for, for whom, and for whose benefit,” Zelensky said.
He added, “The day will come when we live again—the day of peace, the day of Ukraine, a day that will last a century. And we will be able to gather again, at one table, on a peaceful Easter.”
