Of the total, $633 million were grants and $1.35
billion soft loans to support the general budget and to finance priority
projects in the social protection, employment, economic development, and
infrastructure sectors.
The aid included additional grants, worth $316.5
million, to help Jordan with its response plan to the Syrian crisis.
The ministry expects foreign aid to maintain last
year’s level, at more than $4 billion, till the end of this year. It will
direct foreign aid toward implementing priority development programs and
projects, in accordance with development plans and programs, in coordination
with all ministries and government institutions.
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation
Nasser Al-Shraideh said previously that “this aid came as a result of the
efforts of His Majesty the King with brotherly and friendly parties and
countries”.
He said the
assistance is in “recognition of the reforms implemented by Jordan at all
levels, and as a result of international bodies’ and donors’ recognition of
Jordan’s urgent development needs, of the challenges and burdens it faces in
various sectors, and of the importance of maintaining the level of services it
provides citizens, especially in light of the already limited resources”.
