AMMAN — President of the
Jordan Valley Farmers Union Adnan Al-Khadam said that the
Ministry of Agriculture formed on Sunday a
number of committees from the directorates of agriculture which were affected
by frost to assess damage to the respective areas and
crops, according to Al-Rai.

Khadam said that the
committees will work over three days to assess the damage and will report its
findings to the minister of agriculture, noting that the potato and zucchini produce
was most affected by the frost, among other types of crops.
Khadam demanded speedy
compensation for farmers to enable them to return to planting the affected
areas.
Minister of Agriculture Khaled
Hneifat, in addition to teams from the Jordan Farmers Union, the Jordan Valley,
and agriculture directorates made a field tour of the affected areas to assess
the cost of damaged crops and compensate the farmers through a “risks fund”.
Farmers have been hoping for prompt
compensation that would enable them to resume farming and prepare their
farmland for the next season.
