AMMAN —
Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat said on
Monday that the ministry is working to build three factories in the Jordan
Valley area specialized in drying vegetables and producing tomato paste,
indicating that surplus vegetables, and at later stages, fruit will be
processed at these factories, according to Al-Ghad News.

At a meeting with the Parliamentary Finance Committee headed by
the chairman of the committee, Mohammad Al-Saudi, to discuss allocations to the
Ministry of Agriculture stipulated in the two draft laws of the general budget
and the budgets of government units for the fiscal year 2022, Hneifat said that
the ministry built 6,000 dams to harvest water in most regions of the Kingdom,
adding that they will help the agricultural sector. He also said that the
ministry has devised a plan for further water harvesting and the rehabilitation
of most dams.
He said that the Ministry of
Agriculture created more than 7,000 permanent jobs and nearly 4,000 temporary
jobs.
The minister also talked about the recent
decision to allow import of Georgian meat, saying that licenses were granted to
the majority of companies that submitted import applications to the ministry, with
the stipulation that tail fat be removed from Georgian sheep to not confuse them with local sheep in the
markets.
Director of the
National Center for Agricultural Research Nizar Haddad gave an overview of the center's work and
the plans and programs it implements, saying that the center welcomes all
creative ideas related to the field of agricultural research, and that the
ideas presented will be considered and receive support.
Director of the Cooperative
Corporation Mahmoud Al-Shalaby talked about a strategy to upgrade cooperation
in agriculture, and about a number of amendments to some legislation regulating
the law of cooperation and the system of cooperative societies and
organizations.
