A memorandum of understanding was signed at the Ministry of Labor between the ministry and the General Bakery Owners’ Syndicate, allowing the syndicate to recruit a limited number of non-Jordanian workers on a one-time basis for professions permitted for foreign labor in the sector, provided that Jordanian workers are also employed.

Minister of Labor Dr. Khaled Al-Bakar, in the presence of MP Abdul Rahman Al-Awaysha and the head of the General Bakery Owners’ Syndicate, Abdul Ilah Al-Hamwi, stated that the ministry is committed to establishing a genuine partnership with the private sector to ensure the sustainability of businesses across various sectors, including the bakery sector, which is considered one of the vital industries.
Al-Bakar emphasized that the ministry seeks to balance ensuring the continuity of business operations and meeting the demand for non-Jordanian workers by assessing the needs of each sector while maintaining the commitment to employing Jordanians within these industries.
The minister stressed that foreign workers in the bakery sector are prohibited from transferring to other sectors. He added that the ministry will continue its joint inspection campaign with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate to apprehend any non-compliant foreign workers across all sectors.
For his part, the head of the General Bakery Owners’ Syndicate, Abdul Ilah Al-Hamwi, stated that this memorandum facilitates the sector’s operations and helps meet its labor needs while ensuring the employment of Jordanian workers.
Al-Hamwi also commended the Ministry of Labor's role in regulating the labor market, ensuring job opportunities for Jordanians, and controlling non-compliant foreign labor.
