Speaking at a public-private dialogue held Thursday on promoting investment and business climate reforms in Jordan’s ICT sector, Hanandeh noted this industry faces multiple challenges, but the government is seeking to make Jordan a regional gateway by attracting more investments.
During the event organized by the European Union Program and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in the Middle East and North Africa, he said the ministry has incentive plans for investment, employment, and expansion.
For her part, EU Ambassador to Jordan, Maria Hadjitheodosiou, said the Kingdom is “rich in its human resources, which should be supported through growth and development strategies and direct reforms of the business climate.”
The digital economy, especially in the ICT sector, is one of the fastest-growing businesses, which means it can provide more job opportunities, Hadjitheodosiou noted.
Hadjithodosio called for continuing efforts to support digital innovation and entrepreneurship policies and build the necessary infrastructure to achieve this goal, and provide digital skills and information, in addition to supporting a stable and sustainable legislative framework.
Meanwhile, Ana Novik, Head of OECD Investment Division, Anna Novick, said the dialogue came as a continuation of a meeting held last year in Jordan, discussing priorities for improving the entrepreneurial and digital business environment.
