The EU exported 5.4 million cars during 2024, while importing about 4 million vehicles. The value of cars exported was €165.2 billion, while the value of imported cars stood at €75.9 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of €89.3 billion, according to a report by CNN.

Compared to 2019, the number of cars exported decreased by 13.2%, while the value of imported vehicles fell by 3%. However, in terms of value, both exports and imports saw an increase—imports rose by 17.7%, and exports increased by 20%.

The decline in the number of cars exported and imported, coupled with the rise in trade values, reflects the increase in prices between 2019 and 2024.

In 2024, the United States and the United Kingdom were the top destinations for EU car exports, valued at €38.9 billion and €34.3 billion, respectively. This was followed by China at €14.5 billion, Turkey at €12 billion, and Switzerland at €8.5 billion.

Between 2019 and 2024, the EU saw the highest increase in car exports to Turkey, rising by 364.1%, while exports to China witnessed the largest decrease, falling by 22.3%.

As for car imports into the EU, China and Japan were the largest suppliers, with values of €12.7 billion and €12.3 billion, respectively. The UK ranked third with €11 billion, followed by Turkey at €9.1 billion, and the United States at €8.4 billion.

From 2019 to 2024, the EU saw the biggest rise in car imports from China, increasing by 1591.3%, while imports from the United Kingdom saw the largest drop, decreasing by 17.1%.
